Happy Sunday! The Man and I are celebrating Christmas on the East Coast this year, so here are my recommendations for what to read, listen to, eat, and do the next time you’re in NYC.
READ. This Smart Bitches, Trashy Books review of The Billionaire Dinosaur Forced Me Gay. No need to read the book itself; this review is more than sufficient. Reading these reviews is great when you’re a few glasses of wine in with some close friends.
LISTEN TO. I burn out on Christmas carols in November (really, people? Do we need Christmas carols in November?) but feel obligated to have some seasonable background music for holiday events. My go-to is A Toolbox Christmas: classic Christmas carols played on workshop tools. It’s festive enough that it puts you in the holiday spirit but weird enough to stay interesting.
EAT. If you want to splurge on a fancy dinner in NYC, check out Betony. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The cocktails were spectacular, each course was perfectly portioned and cooked, and my bouches were expertly amused. I would highly recommend the table-side poached lobster, toasted grains, and fluke carpaccio…and every single one of their desserts. I’m still wiping drool off my chin.
DO. Skip the expensive trip to Liberty Island to take photos with the famous statue and take the Staten Island Ferry instead. It cruises right by the statue, gives you the same view as the charter ferries, and is f-r-e-e.
