Happy Sunday! Here are my recommendations for what to read, listen to, eat, and do from my adventures this week.
READ. The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. My entire sleep schedule is out of whack (which is how I know a book is really good). If you love fantasy novels, this one has everything: the classic hero struggle, assassinations, mythical creatures, true love, an epic quest (or five), and strong female characters.
LISTEN TO. Lore Podcast. I get burned out on NPR every few weeks and turn to podcasts for company during my daily commute. Lore is a nice balance of fact and fun, explaining the provenance of common horror tropes and walking listeners through parts of history in which truth is by far more disturbing than fiction. Warning: this one may heebie your jeebies.
EAT. Serj Books & Local Food in Dallas, Texas. I spent this weekend celebrating my beautiful cousin, TA, as she and her husband were wed at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. It was quite the party, and The Man and I woke up early this morning in need of a relaxed breakfast. Serj was perfect: we were greeted by its proprietor with a joke when we walked in, enjoyed coloring on their butcher-paper table cloths, and devoured a delightful, muffin-y breakfast.
DO. Budget with You Need A Budget. August marks the first month in my entire decade of working that I haven’t been worried about when my next paycheck would deposit in my account because I’ve got my finances covered. It’s a life-changing feeling.
